ISLAND LAKE CRUISE
Cruise the shores of Island Lake and it’s island looking for aquatic birds and taking in the scenery. The best time is at sunset or early morning. We only launch on Island Lake by prior booking.
Island Lake is usually home to hundreds of Red-knobbed Coots that accumulate in areas sheltered from the wind. The coots nest on heaps of floating reeds and seem to breed all year round. Other birds include, Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, African Darter, Reed, Cape and White-breasted Cormorants, Herons and Kingfishers. At sunset hundreds of Cattle Egrets descend on a patch of reeds alongside the lake to roost.
