Touw River Cruise

A gentle cruise up and down the Touw River, encompassing the reed lined wetlands, forest and lagoon. Duration 1 – 1.5 hours. The boat takes you past the SANParks – Wilderness Rest camp, pausing to take in the sounds of the forests, then back down the river to Wilderness lagoon.

Starting at the jetty at Tarentaal day visitor area in Ebb-and-Flow South Rest Camp (next to the canoe hire.)

Take the Wilderness National Park turn-off from the N2 at Dumbleton Crescent. At the park entry gate, obtain a permit and pay entry fees where applicable and take the first turn left after the gate. You will find us at the jetty and slipway at the end of the picnic area.

Adults – from R250 per adult,
Children – R150 per child.

We add 50% to the above rates for exclusive or private cruises if the group is 5 people or less.

Early morning birding 2 hours – R250 per person by prior arrangement.

ISLAND LAKE CRUISES

Cruise the shores of Island Lake and its island looking for aquatic birds and taking in the scenery. The best time is at sunset or early morning. We only launch on Island Lake by prior booking.

ISLAND LAKE CRuise

The lake is usually home to hundreds of Red-knobbed Coots that accumulate in areas sheltered from the wind. The coots nest on heaps of floating reeds and seem to breed all year round. Other birds include, Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, African Darter, Reed, Cape and White-breasted Cormorants, Herons and Kingfishers. At sunset hundreds of Cattle Egrets descend on a patch of reeds alongside the lake to roost.

Starting at Island Lake slipway in the SANParks picnic area. Pre-booking for Island Lake is essential as we do not base the boat there. Together we make a date and time and meet you there.

Daily shuttle by boat to Ebb-and-Flow in Wilderness National Park, departing 09h30 from the boardwalk in Wilderness village alongside Waterside Road, to enjoy hiking the Half-collared Kingfisher Trail, hiring a canoe or having a picnic in Wilderness Rest Camp.  The shuttle stops at Fairy Knowe hotel and Eden Adventures.  Returning departure 13h30 or 15h00
